Μελέτη της συμπεριφοράς των μεγεθών των καταστάσεων σε κλειστά ομογενή Μαρκοβιανά συστήματα διακριτού και συνεχούς χρόνου (με ή χωρίς χωρητικότητες), με τη βοήθεια επαναληπτικών σχέσεων για τις ροπές των μεγεθών των καταστάσεων. Χρησιμοποιώντας τις ροπές είναι δυνατή η διερεύνηση της συμπεριφοράς των μεγεθών των καταστάσεων όχι μόνο ασυμπτωτικά, ή με βάση μόνο αναμενόμενες τιμές και διακυμάνσεις, αλλά είναι δυνατή η εύρεση των αντίστοιχων κατανομών και μάλιστα ακόμη και στην παροδική φάση (transient period). Η μεθοδολογία αυτή χρησιμοποιείται επίσης στη μελέτη της παροδικής φάσης κλειστών συστημάτων αναμονής διακριτού και συνεχούς χρόνου.
